The Divert Kitchen Caddy is the perfect complement to your kerbside food scrap bin or home composting system.

Most kitchen caddies make collecting food scraps a chore. They smell, attract fruit flies, are messy to empty, awkward to clean, inconvenient to store and are an aesthetically unpleasing addition to your kitchen space. The list of issues with standard kitchen caddies goes on and on...

The Divert Caddy was designed to solve every one of those frustrations.

  • No smell or fruit flies: locking ventilated carbon filter lid neutralises odours and keeps fruit flies out.
  • No mess: removable inner bucket with a handle allows users to lift, empty and clean the caddy with ease.
  • Flexible storage: optional wall mount allows for storage wherever most convenient in your kitchen space (recommended storage under sink cabinet if suitable to your kitchen space).
  • Aesthetic design: modern finish that actually looks good in your kitchen.

WHY DIVERT?

When I moved back to Auckland after five years away at university, I noticed that at some point during my absence (and ignorance), the city rolled out green food scrap bins. Yet very few households seemed to use them.

A closer look confirmed it. Fewer than 30% of households were putting their bins out each week. Once I tried collecting food scraps in my own kitchen, the reason for the low participation became obvious. The problem wasn’t the kerbside bin - it was the kitchen caddy.

The council-procured caddies smell, attract fruit flies, are awkward to empty and clean, and are an eyesore in a modern kitchen. It’s no surprise people avoid using them. After searching for a retail caddy that addresses all these pain points and finding none, I took the task upon myself.

Countless design iterations and three prototypes later, the Divert Kitchen Caddy enables effortless food scrap collection where it matters most: in your kitchen.

The result? Increased participation in complementary kerbside food scrap collection and home composting initiatives, diverting food waste from landfill into renewable resources. This is the impact Divert was built to achieve.
